Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett was cited by Columbus police Saturday morning with a misdemeanor offense for operating a vehicle while impaired (OVI), the university announced.

Barrett, 20, has been suspended by coach Urban Meyer from playing in Ohio State’s game against Minnesota on Nov. 7. The Buckeyes are idle this week.
Barrett failed a breathalyzer test and was released to teammate and fellow quarterback Cardale Jones, according to Elevenwarriors.com, which first reported the arrest, citing police sources.
Barrett had just regained the the starting job from Jones for the 8-0 defending national champions.
Barrett came on for the injured starter Braxton Miller last season and broke the Big Ten record with 45 total touchdowns and finished fifth in the Heisman race. He broke his ankle Nov. 29 against Michigan, ending his season, and Jones came on to lead the Buckeyes to the national title.
This season Barrett has thrown for 472 yards and rushed for 329 yards, and he has accounted for 14 total touchdowns.
