Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan tries out the the Chandler Park tennis courts which are being built with support from the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation, Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, in Detroit. New tennis courts at a park on Detroit's east side have been named in honor of Ralph Wilson, the late founder of the Buffalo Bills.
The courts are being built with funding from the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation. The Detroit News reports (http://detne.ws/1LZsv9T ) the courts are the first component of the Chandler Park Conservancy's $20 million vision to convert the park into a campus for education, conservation and recreation.
Wilson's wife, Mary, attended the naming event Monday at Chandler Park. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan also was on hand, playing tennis with a student.
Wilson was 95 when he died at his Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan, home in 2014. The foundation is funded with proceeds from the sale of the Bills.
